AAAS Energy & ChillMine Team Up for Solar-Powered Data Center in Botswana
AAAS Energy and ChillMine have joined forces to build a solar-powered data center campus in Botswana. The project, located at the Leupane Energy Hub near Palpye, will harness the sun's energy to power AI computing and global hyperscalers.
The energy hub will boast a significant 250MW of solar power, supported by a robust battery energy storage system capable of 100MW/400MW. This will ensure a steady supply of clean energy for the data center's operations.
The collaboration between AAAS Energy and ChillMine comes after ChillMine's earlier MoU with Zimbabwean IPP Energywise, led by Theo Scholtz, to develop similar projects in Zimbabwe. AAAS Energy, a Dutch developer with a strong presence in Sub-Saharan Africa, brings its expertise in solar park development to the table. The project is expected to sell excess power to the Southern African Power Pool.
The data center, once completed, will serve AI computing, global hyperscalers, and energy-intensive operations. By utilizing solar power, the project contributes to Botswana's renewable energy goals while providing a reliable power source for its data center needs.
