Matt Wright, the famed crocodile wrangler and reality TV star, is currently standing trial in Darwin's Supreme Court, facing charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice. The trial, which began in early August 2025, is expected to last up to five weeks, with numerous witnesses set to testify[1][2].

The charges against Wright stem from allegations that he manipulated flying hour records for a helicopter. It is alleged that Wright asked a friend, Sebastian Robinson, who was the pilot of the helicopter involved in a crash in remote swampland in the Northern Territory, to retrieve his phone and diary, where flying hours were recorded. Wright is also accused of visiting Robinson in hospital to get him to sign a document to doctor flight records, and of lying to police by falsely stating there was half a tank of fuel in the helicopter at the scene.

The crash, which occurred in 2023, resulted in the death of Chris 'Willow', a co-star of Outback Wrangler, and left Robinson seriously injured, now living as a paraplegic. The charges against Wright do not relate to the cause of the accident.

In a shocking turn of events, Wright visited Robinson in hospital despite COVID vaccination requirements and testing. Robinson, who gave evidence at the trial via video link from his wheelchair, stated that Wright asked him to delete a few things from his phone and to put some of his helicopter hours onto Robinson's own helicopter. The prosecution alleges that Wright was worried crash investigators would discover that flight-time meters were disconnected to extend flying hours.

It is important to note that the prosecution does not allege Wright is responsible for the crash, Chris 'Willow' Wilson's death, or Robinson's injuries. Dani Wright, the widow of Chris 'Willow' Wilson, has regularly attended the criminal trial.

Robinson, who described the crash and his injuries as the hardest thing he's ever had to deal with, expressed fear and panic, not knowing who to trust. Robinson's helicopter was not equipped for egg collecting, a task Wright allegedly asked him to perform.

Wright denies these allegations, with his defense questioning the reliability of recorded conversations and the credibility of the pilot and his family's evidence. The trial is ongoing, with the outcome yet to be determined.
