Actress Ella Purnell Discusses Shocking Turns in Final Fallout Season Episode

In an interview with GQ, Ella Purnell, the star of Amazon's post-apocalyptic hit series Fallout, dished on her character Lucy's emotional journey at the end of the first season and hinted at what's to come in season two.

After leaving the artificial safety of Vault 33, Lucy embarked on a journey through the brutally beautiful wasteland. Along the way, she uncovered shocking truths about the history of her world, learned that her father, Hank (played by Kyle MacLachlan), was complicit in the nuclear destruction that ended civilization, and made the heart-wrenching decision to end her irradiated mother's miserable existence as a Ghoul.

"I thought, What's the opposite of Lucy?" Purnell mused, discussing her performance in the season finale. "She's relentlessly optimistic...so the opposite of that is seeing the light drain out of this beacon of hope; seeing the light drain out of her eyes. And seeing her catatonic. Seeing her numb. And there's no more fight left in her."

Struggling with the revelation that her hope has been shattered, Lucy is left questioning her own identity. "I don't know who she's gonna be in season two [but] this is what happens when you break the unbreakable. I don't know who she's about to become," Purnell teased.

Having played the videogame that inspired the series, Purnell feels a deep connection to the story and her character. "I am just Fallout-centric right now. I just eat, breathe, live, shit Fallout, all the time," she joked during the interview, which also delved into the gruesome finger scene with Walton Goggins and the "Okey-dokey" line at the end.

While specifics about Lucy's storyline in the upcoming second season are scarce, it's known that the action will move to the glitzy, decaying city of New Vegas. Other hints suggest that the series will delve deeper into the characters and the world they inhabit, blurring the lines between right and wrong.
