Minister of Reform Advocates Selective Approach to Digitalizing Administrative Processes

In a recent statement, the digital minister has suggested that not all administrative processes need to be digitized. Steffen Schuetz, the Digital Minister, cautioned against the mere digitization of dysfunctional processes, stating that such processes should be fundamentally reformed or dissolved.

Schuetz emphasized the importance of focusing on work processes during the digitization process. He urged clarification of which regulations and reporting obligations are truly necessary, what the state should provide, and what can be eliminated.

The digital transformation progress in Thuringia has been less than satisfactory, as indicated by the Bitkom State Index 2024 and the Fraunhofer Institute for Open Communication Systems' Germany Index of Digitization 2023. Thuringia ranked last and near the bottom, respectively, compared to other federal states.

To improve the digitization process in Thuringia, streamlining administrative tasks, enhancing digital infrastructure, and training public sector employees are recommended. Additionally, simplifying reporting requirements, reviewing and updating regulations, and encouraging transparency in government operations are crucial steps.

Collaborating with private sector entities, incorporating public engagement, and monitoring progress are essential implementation strategies. These measures are aimed at enhancing public services, creating a more efficient economy, and facilitating a more innovative digital environment in Thuringia.

In light of the minister's advocated selective approach to digitalizing administrative processes, it's necessary to devise a community policy that emphasizes the importance of vocational training in finance, business, and technology for public sector employees, ensuring they are well-equipped to manage streamlined administrative tasks. This approach will not only enhance the efficiency of the economy in Thuringia but also improve the overall digitization process and create a more innovative digital environment.
