Adobe has taken a contentious step with artificial intelligence: it now authorizes external creators.

Adobe Firefly, the pioneering ethical and commercially safe AI image generator, has made significant strides in its integration of third-party AI models, revolutionising the creative landscape for professionals worldwide.

In a move to broaden its partner ecosystem, Firefly now collaborates with a diverse range of providers such as Google, OpenAI, Runway, Pika, Luma, Ideogram, and Black Forest Labs, offering access to their generative AI models alongside Adobe's own Firefly models and selected OpenAI image generation capabilities.

This unified approach ensures seamless access to multiple models, allowing creators to experiment with different styles and media types without the need to switch platforms. All models are accessible through a single Adobe Firefly subscription and login.

Data privacy and transparency are at the forefront of Adobe's strategy. Third-party model providers are required to agree not to use creator data to train their own models, protecting user assets and ensuring ethical use of generated content. Furthermore, all AI-generated assets are digitally signed with a verified certificate, providing transparency about the origin and model used.

The introduction of Firefly Boards, a new AI moodboarding platform, allows users to generate, edit, and iterate on images from conversational text prompts. Third-party models are available here first, with plans for wider accessibility across the Firefly app.

The redesigned Firefly mobile app, available on iOS and Android, now includes support for third-party models, text-to-video generation, and background editing, enabling creative work on the go.

These developments offer unprecedented flexibility for creative professionals, who can now experiment with diverse aesthetic styles and media formats within a single platform. The integration of multiple third-party models under one subscription simplifies workflows, enabling creators to mix and match tools and models for complex projects without leaving the Adobe ecosystem.

The digital signature and certificate system for AI-generated content provide peace of mind regarding copyright, origin, and commercial safety, which is crucial for professionals working with clients and brands. Upcoming features promise to further expand the creative possibilities within Adobe Firefly, from generating avatars and sound effects from text prompts to syncing audio and video using voice.

Adobe Firefly's Vice President for Product Marketing, Deepa Subramaniam, stated that creative professionals want access to various generative AI models within their work environment. To cater to this demand, Adobe has announced plans to add third-party AI video generation to Premiere Pro.

The Creative Cloud All Apps plan, including access to professional apps like Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Illustrator, Adobe Express, Acrobat Pro, and more, is currently available for half price for three months. The plan also includes 100GB of cloud storage and 1000 monthly generative credits.

Adobe Firefly stands out from other AI image generators due to its use of licensed training data or data from the public domain, setting a new standard for ethical and commercially safe AI technology in the creative industry.
