Alstom Wins €280M Spanish High-Speed Rail Deal for ERTMS Level 2
Alstom, the global leader in rail transport, has been awarded a significant contract by Adif, the Spanish railway infrastructure manager. The €280 million deal involves the supply, installation, and 20-year maintenance of signaling and telecommunications systems on the high-speed line connecting Albacete and Alicante. Alstom's share in this project is approximately €110 million.
The project scope is extensive, covering the design, installation, and maintenance of various systems. These include the signaling system, fixed communication system, centralized traffic control, safety equipment, automatic train protection (ATP) system, mobile GSM-R communication equipment, and infrastructure for mobile operators. Alstom will oversee the overall project coordination and system architecture, and will be responsible for the supply, installation, and maintenance of the ERTMS signaling system.
The ERTMS level 2 signaling system, a state-of-the-art technology, will be installed on the line, marking a significant advancement from the previous ERTMS level 1 equipment. Alstom, the global leader in ERTMS level 2, has already equipped 6 out of the 10 lines currently using this technology. The consortium led by Alstom includes Grupo Comsa-Emte, Isolux Concesiones, and CAF.
Henri Poupart-Lafarge, President of Alstom Transport, praised the company's technology, stating that it offers the best on the market today, optimizing operational performance while reducing maintenance costs. The contract, worth around €280 million, underscores Alstom's commitment to innovation and leadership in the rail transport industry.
