AMD secretly releases RX 7700 sans-XT, sporting 16 GB VRAM - New RDNA 3 GPU utilizes scaled-down Navi 32 die, delivering reduced performance and heightened power consumption
In a recent development, AMD has expanded its RDNA 3 lineup with the introduction of the Radeon RX 7700 non-XT. This new addition, while not a direct successor to the RX 7700 XT, offers a unique set of features.
The RX 7700 non-XT employs a cut-down version of Navi 32, featuring 2,560 Stream Processors and 40 Compute Units. This configuration results in a memory bandwidth of 624 GB/s, ensuring smooth performance in most gaming scenarios. The graphics card is equipped with 16 GB of GDDR6 memory, saturated across a 256-bit bus.
ASRock has unveiled a custom "Challenger" design for the RX 7700 non-XT. This design is clocked at 2,041 MHz (Game), boosting up to 2,459 MHz, providing a decent base for gaming performance.
In comparison, the Radeon RX 7800 XT boasts a higher count of Stream Processors, Compute Units, Texture Mapping Units (TMU), and Render Output Units (ROP). However, it shares the same Memory Bandwidth and Memory Bus width with the RX 7700 XT. The RX 7800 XT also features a larger Infinity Cache and more AI Accelerators. In terms of clock speeds, the RX 7800 XT has a slightly lower GPU Game Clock and Boost Clock than the RX 7700 XT.
As for power consumption, the RX 7700 non-XT consumes 263W, a significant increase from its XT counterpart. AMD recommends a 700W power supply for the RX 7700, reflecting its power-hungry nature.
The price of the Radeon RX 7700 non-XT in the German market is yet to be revealed. However, comparable RX 7700 XT models are found used around €350-400. The official AMD or retail prices for the non-XT model are not yet disclosed. Launching the RX 7700 non-XT at a price more than ~$350 could potentially cannibalize the lineup and make it a dead-on-arrival (DoA) product.
It's important to note that the availability of the RX 7700 non-XT has not been announced by AMD. The Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB, currently in the midrange, offers a faster performance than the RX 7700 non-XT, with its 8 GB variant outperforming the non-XT as well.
In conclusion, the Radeon RX 7700 non-XT presents an intriguing addition to AMD's RDNA 3 lineup. Its unique specifications and performance potential will undoubtedly be a topic of interest among gaming enthusiasts. However, the key factors of its price and availability remain to be seen.
