Android 16's Privacy Space problem seems poised for resolution by Google

Android users can look forward to a more streamlined file management experience in the Private Space feature, as Google is reportedly introducing a new file transfer feature in an upcoming update.

The latest Android Canary build has seen changes in how Private Space operates, with the addition of a dedicated "Add" button. This button replaces the existing "Install" button and offers two options: "Install apps" and "Add files." The "Add files" option opens the Google Files app, allowing users to browse their main profile's files and choose which ones to transfer into Private Space.

One of the key improvements in this new feature is the ability for users to choose whether to copy or move files, eliminating the need to manually delete originals to maintain privacy. For transfers involving many files or large data, a progress notification will appear. However, the feature has limitations: up to 100 files or 2GB of data can be transferred at once.

Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority has shared this information, suggesting that the new feature may be released in the next quarterly update, QPR2 beta. It's important to note that this feature is not available in Android 16's QPR beta 1, and Google has not yet announced the release date for the new Private Space file transfer feature.

Currently, files can be transferred into Private Space either by downloading them directly from a Private Space-installed app into the partition, or by using Android's sharing feature to send over a copy. This often results in two copies of a file, one on each section of the phone, which can be cumbersome and confusing. The new feature aims to address this issue by providing a more straightforward and secure method for transferring files.

The new Private Space file transfer feature is expected to make managing files in Private Space easier and more user-friendly. With this update, users can expect a more streamlined and secure file management experience in their Private Space.
