Google has unveiled a series of changes to its Gemini app on Android, with the latest update (version 16.30) bringing a fresh look and feel to the assistant.

The most noticeable change is the updated four-color glow animation for the Gemini overlay, which is now widely available for stable users. This animation features a gradient of red, yellow, green, and blue, with light blue as the dominant color. The rollout began in early July 2025 and completed by early August, moving from beta to stable channels.

To access the new animation, users need to summon Gemini by swiping up from the bottom-left or bottom-right corners or by long-pressing the power button. One minor exception remains: the Recents multitasking menu still displays the old icon due to how the Google app powers that functionality.

The new Gemini logo is rounded in shape, and the app greeting has turned blue. The model picker in the Gemini app has also been tweaked to emphasize its function.

In promotional images, the Gemini app is always referred to as "Google Gemini". Another significant change is the new Gemini widget, which now features Astra shortcuts in the update.

Google has also introduced a new icon for the Gemini app, which is now available on both Android and iOS homescreens. The blue-purple glow around the Gemini overlay has been replaced with a red, yellow, green, and blue gradient to emphasize the Google connection.

It's worth noting that these changes are not yet available on the web. The updated blue greeting is limited to the Google app beta on Android, and the new animation of the Gemini overlay has two stages: all four colors at launch, then it becomes blue. The four-color glow is being rolled out to Google app beta (version 16.30) users.

In summary, the latest update to the Gemini app brings a fresh look and feel to Android devices, with a new four-color glow animation, updated logo, and blue greeting. Users just need to update the app from the Play Store to see the changes.
