Google has acknowledged the lock screen issues affecting Pixel phones that have been updated to Android 16. The tech giant confirmed that a fix for these issues is currently being rolled out.

Users have reported various problems with their lock screens, including screens that won't wake or respond, screen brightness acting up, a moody fingerprint scanner, crashes right after unlocking, and sluggish performance. These issues have been ongoing for weeks, with users seeking solutions on Google forums and Reddit threads.

The lock screen problems were first reported by users on 9to5Google. Google has confirmed that the fix for the issues affecting Pixel phones on Android 16 started rolling out today. Users will not need to take any action for the fix to be applied.

Although some lock screen issues were present after the initial Android 16 update, the latest QPR1 Beta 3.1 update has effectively addressed most of these problems. This update, released in August 2025, includes numerous bug fixes targeting stability and UI problems, including fixes related to the lock screen.

The Android 16 QPR1 Beta 3.1 update has resolved issues involving incorrect lock screen toggles and other UI glitches. Previously, the Beta 2.1 update addressed similar issues, resolving over 20 bugs affecting device stability, UI elements, and system crashes which had indirectly impacted the lock screen experience.

Google has not provided further details about the fix or the timeline for its completion. Android 16, intended to bring a fresh new look and tighter security to Pixel phones, officially started rolling out last month, with Google's Pixel phones being the first to receive the update.

It's unclear how widespread the issue is, but most evidence comes from forum complaints. Some users have attempted to deal with the bugs by forcing a restart, but the lock screen issues tend to return after a few hours.

Google will provide an official comment on the matter once more information is available. Users are advised to keep their devices updated to the latest version of Android 16 to ensure they receive the fix as soon as it becomes available.
