Apple Set to Revolutionize US F1 Streaming with $140M Deal
Formula 1 fans in Germany face a change in viewing options as Sky's rights have led to the discontinuation of F1 TV Pro subscriptions and upgrades to F1 TV Premium are no longer possible. Meanwhile, Apple is set to make a significant move in the US motorsport streaming scene.
Apple is expected to announce a deal for the streaming rights of Formula 1 in the USA at the Grand Prix of Austin from October 17 to 19. This acquisition, rumored to be worth $140 million per year, would be Apple's largest since it paid $2.5 billion for a 10-year contract to stream Major League Soccer three years ago.
The deal is reported to involve Apple becoming the exclusive or one of several streaming providers for Formula 1 in the US. This could potentially mean the end of F1's own US streaming service, F1 TV. However, it remains unclear whether Apple will require an additional season pass for Formula 1 streaming.
The official announcement by Apple and Formula 1 is anticipated to bring clarity to the US streaming landscape for Formula 1 fans. The potential exclusivity of the deal and the implications for existing streaming services are expected to be revealed at the Austin Grand Prix.
