Apple's 'Scratchgate': New iPhones Scratched by MagSafe Stands

Apple is facing a new controversy, dubbed 'Scratchgate', involving excessive scratches on its latest iPhone models. The company has acknowledged a photographic issue and blamed MagSafe stands for the marks, but some buyers remain unconvinced.

The issue, affecting iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Air models, has been reported widely. Apple attributed the scratches to worn MagSafe stands used in stores, insisting the marks are removable with cleaning. However, some users are skeptical, believing the marks are real chips and scratches.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has cast doubt on Apple's explanation, noting that the aluminum camera area can get scuffed up. The deep blue iPhone 17 Pro models and black iPhone Air exhibited scuffs after just a few hours on display. MagSafe chargers have also been reported to leave circular marks on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro.

To protect their new iPhones, users are advised to use one of the best iPhone 17 cases. Despite the controversy, Scratchgate is not expected to reach the same level of impact as previous device controversies like Antennagate and Bendgate.

Apple has acknowledged a photographic issue and attributed the scratches on new iPhone models to MagSafe stands. While some users remain unconvinced, the company recommends using MagSafe-compatible cases for protection. The impact of Scratchgate remains to be seen, but it joins a list of previous Apple controversies.
