Approved budget of NT$122.7 billion for science park by NDC (National Development Council)
Expansion of Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City to Boost Taiwan's Semiconductor Industry and Create Thousands of Jobs
The National Development Council has approved a plan to expand the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City project in Tainan, Taiwan. This expansion is a significant step towards reinforcing the nation's semiconductor industry and creating tens of thousands of jobs.
Located in the Shalun area of Tainan's Gueiren District, the project spans over 531 hectares of science park space in southern Taiwan. The expansion is estimated to cost NT$122.7 billion (US$4.08 billion) and will be financed through annual allocations from the Southern Taiwan Science Park Administration's operating fund.
The Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City project aims to meet the rising demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing. It aligns with the nation's efforts to strengthen its semiconductor industry, a central part of the NSTC's Greater Southern New Silicon Valley Promotion Plan.
The project's ecological design aims to balance industrial growth with environmental protection. Infrastructure projects like the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City will be integrated with new research and development hubs, ensuring sustainable development.
Once completed, the project is projected to provide 35,000 jobs. After the completion of land-use and environmental reviews, land acquisition, public works, and factory construction would proceed simultaneously.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs will be responsible for financing the project if it is approved by the cabinet. The progress and development of the project may be photographed by the Tainan Economic Development Bureau.
The annual output of the project is estimated to be NT$2.24 trillion. The land-use and environmental reviews for the nonurban land of the project are expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The expansion of the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City project is a significant move towards strengthening Taiwan's semiconductor industry and boosting its economy. With the creation of thousands of jobs and the integration of advanced technology, this project is set to play a crucial role in Taiwan's future.
