Klaus, an avid golfer and CEO of Trackman, let us in on the story of this game-changing company during a visit to their state-of-the-art headquarters in Horsholm. It all began in a garage, an "interesting time" he jokes, when a small group of engineers started working on creating the ultimate tool for golfers.
Today, Trackman boasts over 850 employees in seven offices, selling its products in more than 70 countries. But it's not just its growth that's impressive; it's the impact it's had on golf and beyond.
Klaus shares that the idea for Trackman came from wondering how golfers could get better feedback during practice. This led him to meet a radar engineer, Fredrik Tuxen, who was responsible for tracking bullets and missiles for the military. Combining their skills, they set out to revolutionize golf practice.
In just two years, Tuxen managed to scale down the radar technology into something practical for golf. Gone were the days of guesswork - Trackman could track a ball for its entire journey, providing countless ball and club data parameters with an accuracy of within one foot.
The duo traveled to America in 2004 to pitch their first $100,000 device to the big names in golf: Mizuno, TaylorMade, Callaway, Ping, and Nike. Impressively, they came away with contracts for five original Trackman radars.
This was a significant milestone not just for Trackman, but for golf as a whole. "Trackman came along with all this data and it was...well, it transformed the game," recalls Joe Ferguson, former head professional and custom fitter at the Celtic Manor Resort.
Thanks to Trackman, golfers can now practice with purpose, with accurate and immediate feedback on each shot. Coaches and fitters can also work more effectively with players, highlighting areas for improvement and ensuring accountability.
Tuxen takes us on a tour of his lab, where research and development is underway, and where Trackman technology is currently used by all professional baseball teams in the United States, Japan, and Korea.
Without a doubt, Trackman has changed the way people teach and play golf, but it's not stopping there - it's just getting started. With continuous research and development, the future is bright for this innovative company and the sports it serves.
- Klaus, reflecting on the origins of Trackman, shared how the concept for the golf technology emerged from a desire to provide golfers with better feedback during practice.
