Arrested: Individuals Implicated in Cyber Fraud Crimes
Police in Cebu City have identified three individuals suspected of being involved in an investment scam run by BMJ Data Processing Services in Barangay Kasambagan. The three suspects, who have not yet been named, are officials of the company and are currently under investigation.
The Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) 7, led by Col. Enrico Figueroa, executed a search warrant at the office of BMJ Data Processing Services on May 26, 2025. During the raid, authorities confiscated approximately 43 computers, laptops, and other equipment.
The warrant was issued by RTC Branch 7 Judge James Stewart Ramon Himalaloan due to potential violations of Section 11 of Republic Act 11765 (Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act) and Section 6 of RA 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The scam reportedly came to light when a foreign YouTuber and hacker exposed it. The hacker allegedly gained access to the company's computer system, including its CCTV camera.
The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), led by Lt. Col. Maria Theresa Macatangay, has taken custody of the confiscated devices. Macatangay stated that their Racu-7 (Regional Anti-Crime Unit) has identified three personalities connected to the scam, and both the company and its officers will be implicated in the investigation.
The CCPO is currently working to prevent the three individuals from leaving Cebu and the Philippines to ensure they can be arrested if charges are filed against them. The next step in the investigation is to examine the contents of the computers to gather evidence for potential cases against those involved.
Investigators are also considering the accountability of the building's lessor, who subleased the building to BMJ Data Processing Services. If evidence emerges pointing to the lessor's involvement in the company's illegal activities, they will be included in the filing of charges.
Cooperation from the company's call center agents is crucial for the investigation and the filing of cases, as they can provide valuable information about the nature of the activities being conducted. The CCPO and ACG-7 are currently coordinating with the company's employees, some of whom remain fearful and are therefore being given additional time to cooperate.
