Artificial intelligence security firm CrowdStrike expands its capabilities with the acquisition of Pangea
CrowdStrike, a leading cybersecurity company, has announced its acquisition of Pangea Cyber, a Palo Alto-based startup specialising in AI security, for approximately $260 million. The deal is expected to close this quarter.
Founded in 2021, Pangea Cyber has made a name for itself in the cybersecurity industry by focusing on preventing prompt injection attacks, a type of cyber threat against AI systems. The acquisition will extend CrowdStrike's Falcon agentic security platform, offering the industry's first complete AI Detection and Response (AIDR).
George Kurtz, chief executive of CrowdStrike, stated that AI is rapidly expanding the enterprise attack surface. With Pangea, CrowdStrike aims to secure the entire AI lifecycle, detecting risks, enforcing safeguards, and ensuring compliance.
Oliver Friedrichs, the founder of Pangea Cyber, stated that Pangea was founded to make AI adoption safe and secure. He mentioned that by joining CrowdStrike, Pangea will be able to deliver this vision on a global scale.
The extension will provide visibility and control over AI agents and their workflows. AIDR will offer low-latency defenses against malicious prompt manipulation and include safeguards to stop risky chatbot interactions. It will also secure data, models, agents, identities, infrastructure, and interactions from development through workforce usage.
Pangea monitors interactions between AI systems, users, and software. Its AIDR will unify AI security with the Falcon platform, enabling CrowdStrike's customers to build, deploy, and scale AI without risk. The goal is to empower businesses to harness the power of AI while minimising the associated security risks.
The acquisition will enhance CrowdStrike's Falcon platform with AI Detection and Response capabilities. Kurtz also mentioned that with Pangea, CrowdStrike will be better equipped to address the growing threat landscape and help businesses protect their AI assets.
While the founder of Pangea Cyber is not explicitly named in the available search results, Friedrichs' leadership and vision for secure AI adoption have been instrumental in the company's success. The acquisition is expected to further strengthen CrowdStrike's position as a leader in the cybersecurity industry.
The acquisition is a significant step forward in CrowdStrike's mission to protect organisations from cyber threats. With the addition of Pangea's AI security expertise, CrowdStrike is well-positioned to help businesses navigate the complex and evolving AI landscape.
