Asahi Hit by Cyberattack, Revenue Surges Despite Disruption
Japanese beverage giant Asahi has suffered a system failure following a cyberattack, disrupting operations and causing revenue to soar in the first half of 2025.
Asahi Group, owner of numerous beverage brands and operator of around 30 factories across Japan, reported over $9 billion in revenue for the first half of 2025. However, the company is currently grappling with a system failure due to a cyberattack by the group 'Lapsus$'. The incident, which occurred on Monday, March 1, 2023, has led to the suspension of order and shipment operations, call center services, and some customer service desks. Beverage companies worldwide, including those in Russia, Germany, Belgium, and Sweden, have faced similar attacks in recent years. Despite the disruption, Asahi has not confirmed any leakage of personal information or customer data to external parties. The company is working to resolve the issue, but there is no estimated timeline for the recovery of operations. The system failure is currently limited to Asahi's operations within Japan.
Asahi, despite the cyberattack and system failure, has seen significant revenue growth in the first half of 2025. The company is addressing the issue and ensuring no data breach has occurred. Customers and stakeholders await updates on the restoration of services.
