Assessed the robust AMOLED smartwatch created by Polar, a potential contender for their finest cost-effective wearable device to date

The Polar Grit X2, launched in June 2025, is a popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a reliable and affordable smartwatch. With a water resistance of 5 ATM (WR50-rated), this watch is perfect for those who enjoy water activities.

The Grit X2 offers navigation features similar to Garmin and Suunto outdoor watches, including full offline maps, elevation profiles, POIs, and route guidance. Turn-by-turn navigation is integrated with maps directly on the watch, supported by 32 GB storage for offline use, powered by Komoot.

One of the key differences between the Grit X2 and its Pro counterpart lies in the battery capacity. The Grit X2 has a 310 mAh battery, about 35% smaller than the Pro’s 488 mAh battery, giving the Pro model longer battery life. The Grit X2 takes around 35-40 minutes to get the battery charged from flat to around half full, and around two hours to go from zero to 100 per cent.

In terms of size and weight, the Grit X2 is slimmer, lighter, and more compact, offering a comfortable fit for those who find rugged watches bulky. The Grit X2 weighs around 39g without a band, while the Pro model is chunkier and heavier.

The Grit X2 is positioned as a budget-friendly alternative to the Pro model, with a significantly more affordable price tag. However, it is important to note that the Pro model may include titanium casing in the Titan variant for extra durability.

The Grit X2 is essentially the same as the Grit X2 Pro, launched well over a year ago, but at two-thirds of the price. The display of the Grit X2 is a 1.28'' AMOLED touchscreen panel at 416 x 416 pixels. The watch has a stainless steel bezel and sapphire glass lens.

The Grit X2 does not have a solar option, but it offers a free download of multiple maps. A free Komoot subscription only includes one free region, but users can plan routes in Komoot and sync them via the Polar Flow app to the watch. The battery life of the Grit X2 is nearly a week in smartwatch mode, and up to 90 hours in Eco Training Mode.

The watch is available from Polar UK and Polar AU for £399/ AU$799 (~$532.75). It is worth noting that a battery change for the Grit X2 costs €39,90, plus an additional service cost and shipping costs.

In summary, the Grit X2 is a lighter, simpler, and more affordable outdoor watch with most of the Pro’s core training and navigation features. It caters to a broader audience due to its smaller case size and is an excellent choice for budget-conscious adventurers.
