Autonomous 2021 Jaguar I-Pace, boasting 242,000 miles on its odometer, has been logging daily routes of approximately 137 miles since 2020, courtesy of Waymo's driverless technology.
In a remarkable display of durability and efficiency, an individual Waymo Jaguar I-PACE vehicle in Phoenix has autonomously covered nearly 242,000 miles since its deployment in October 2020. This significant milestone was revealed through a direct sighting of the odometer on a 2021 Waymo Jaguar I-PACE used in Phoenix's autonomous rideshare service.
The Jaguar I-PACE, first introduced in 2019 as the British automaker's inaugural all-electric SUV, has undergone several software upgrades, increasing its EPA-estimated range to 246 miles. These updates have undoubtedly contributed to the vehicle's impressive mileage.
The lifelong gearhead, Noah Washington, an automotive journalist based in Atlanta, Georgia, had the opportunity to ride in one of these autonomous vehicles in Phoenix. Impressed by the experience, he shared his post in the Facebook group "Mileage Impossible."
Washington's article, published by Automotive News and Electric Vehicle News and Reviews, also highlights the I-PACE's cabin air, which features PM2.5 filtration, and its SOTA (Software-Over-The-Air) capability, which keeps infotainment and charging systems continuously updated.
By mid-2025, around 1,500 Jaguar I-PACE vehicles had been deployed by Waymo, with plans for more. The company, in fact, selected the I-PACE for up to 20,000 vehicles. The I-PACE's impressive performance, including a 0-60 mph acceleration time of around 4.5 seconds, makes it an ideal choice for autonomous rideshare services.
The battery on the I-PACE, showing 62 miles of range at half charge, suggests that while degradation has likely occurred, the pack remains serviceable after what must be thousands of charging cycles. This resilience underscores the I-PACE's suitability for its role in Waymo's fleet.
The 2021 Waymo Jaguar I-PACE's remarkable journey began with a rating of 234 miles (WLTP). However, its ability to maintain such high mileage daily, averaging about 137 miles per day over nearly five years of continuous service, is a testament to its performance and the advancements made in autonomous driving technology.
