BMW & E.ON Launch Germany's First Bidirectional EV Charging Offer

BMW and E.ON have joined forces to launch Germany's first bidirectional electric vehicle charging offer. The innovative solution, unveiled at the IAA Munich, allows BMW iX3 owners to save significantly on electricity costs and even earn money by feeding power back into the grid.

The BMW iX3, equipped with bidirectional charging capabilities, can now be ordered starting at 68,900 euros, with the 'BMW Wallbox Professional' priced at 2,099 euros. Through an intelligent control system developed jointly by BMW and E.ON, the high-voltage battery of the iX3 can supply power to the grid when connected to the wallbox.

Customers can save up to 2,184 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, equivalent to driving 14,000 kilometers without additional costs. Moreover, they receive a bonus of 24 cents per hour for keeping their iX3 connected to the wallbox, capped at 60 euros per month. There's no prescribed minimum connection time, and customers are fairly compensated for the energy they feed back into the grid. The Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) tariff will be available from January 2026, with plans to extend the offer to more BMW model series in the future.

The first commercial V2G solution on the German market is now available, marking a significant step towards a more sustainable and cost-effective electric vehicle ownership. By harnessing the power of their electric vehicles, BMW iX3 owners can now contribute to the grid and benefit from reduced electricity costs.
