BMW's Electric Scooter, CE 02, Set to Debut in India Soon

BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle arm of the German automaker, is set to launch an affordable roadster bike in the Indian market, marking an expansion of its electric vehicle portfolio in the country.

The upcoming roadster bike is not part of the TVS-BMW partnership, which currently focuses on the G 310 series and the BMW CE 02, another electric scooter/bike from BMW Motorrad. Unlike the BMW CE 02, the affordable roadster bike is not expected to be exported from India to global markets.

The BMW CE 02, which is manufactured by TVS Motor Company in collaboration with BMW, is currently being exported from India to global markets. The electric scooter, targeted for global markets, is expected to appear on the Indian market around 2024-2025. The BMW CE 02 is the first electric bike to be manufactured as part of the TVS-BMW partnership.

Meanwhile, the BMW CE 04, BMW Motorrad India's flagship electric scooter, is priced at ₹ 14.90 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most expensive electric scooter ever sold in India. The affordable roadster bike, on the other hand, is expected to be more budget-friendly compared to the BMW CE 04 and the BMW CE 02.

The development of the affordable roadster bike indicates BMW Motorrad's commitment to offering a diverse range of electric vehicles to cater to various segments of the market. As of now, the name of the affordable roadster bike under development by BMW Motorrad has not been disclosed.

The BMW CE 02 is manufactured in India by TVS at its Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu. The production of the affordable roadster bike, however, is not yet confirmed to take place at the same facility.

The TVS-BMW partnership commenced with the G 310 series of bikes, and it seems that BMW Motorrad is looking to diversify its partnerships to further its electric vehicle ambitions in India. The affordable roadster bike is not yet available in the Indian market, but it is expected to be a significant addition to the growing electric vehicle landscape in the country.
