Boris FX Introduces Sapphire 2023, Showcasing Cutting-edge Special Effects

Boris FX has announced the release of Sapphire 2023, its updated plugin suite for video editing software. The latest version includes new and enhanced effects, notably the S_PrismLens and S_UltraGrain effects, designed to provide creatives with enhanced control over optical distortions and filmic texture.

The S_PrismLens effect is a new optical effect that simulates the refraction and dispersion of light through a prism-like lens, creating realistic chromatic aberration and light-bending effects ideal for stylistic lens flare and visual distortion looks. Users can modify lens shape, use built-in Mocha to track and isolate effects, and add finishing touches such as glows, lights, and chromatic aberrations with the S_PrismLens effect. The effect includes three initial styles: single, linear, and circular.

The S_UltraGrain effect is an advanced film grain effect designed to add subtle, authentic texture emulating analog film grain with fine control over grain size, intensity, and colorization. It improves upon previous grain tools with better realism and integration with various output gamma settings. Users can instantly apply precise film and camera grain to footage with the S_UltraGrain effect.

Over 100 new curated presets have been added to Sapphire's extensive preset collection, including 18 photorealistic lens flare presets in the renowned lighting category. The S_UltraGrain effect features 79 presets based on various film stocks and modern production cameras.

The updated plugin suite also includes the new S_DissolveUltraGlow transition, which adds enhanced features with an optical-based glow, highlight and atmospheric noise parameters, and 14 presets.

Sapphire 2023 is now available for purchase through annual/monthly subscriptions, upgrade & support plans, and permanent licenses. Monthly subscriptions for the collection, Adobe/OFX, and Avid cost $112, $62, and $62 respectively. Annual subscriptions cost $895, $495, and $495 respectively. Permanent licenses for the collection, Adobe/OFX, and Avid cost $2795, $1695, and $1695 respectively.

Upgrades for the multi-host option start at $895 for the collection, $495 for Adobe/OFX, and $495 for Avid. Current subscribers or those on upgrade & support plans receive Sapphire 2023 as a free update.
