Bose Revives Its Most Renowned Audio Devices, Yet with a Noteworthy Condition

Turning 60 is a significant achievement for any corporation, and Bose is commemorating this by reintroducing its legendary 901 speakers. The news of their return was shared on an Instagram post. Bose, alongside NYC lifestyle brand Kith and renowned furniture designer Mark Jupiter, are collaborating to give these classic speakers a modern twist. This isn't the first partnership between Bose and Kith; you might recall the highly sought-after Bose Ultra Open earbuds, which were released in a limited edition.

The 901 speakers, which were originally introduced in 1968, are being reissued as a limited edition. Bose is truly committed to the word "limited," as they're only producing 12 sets. According to their Instagram post, these are "custom, commemorative sets [...] exclusively for our friends and family."

Unsurprisingly, this has left some customers disappointed. The comment section is filled with complaints, such as "This is pointless if they only make 12" or "This product needs to be mass-produced."

Ronnie Fieg, the founder of Kith, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, "If you value music and its sound as much as I do, you understand the importance of the Bose 901 Speakers. Since 1968, this speaker has symbolized the pinnacle of audio engineering."

The 901 speakers boast one full-range driver in front and eight on the back, covered with tweed front grills and metal rear grills. The speaker's cabinet is crafted from MDF wood and rests on a striking stand, one of the speaker's most iconic features.

Bose has yet to disclose the specifications or pricing of the 901 speakers. It's not clear whether a non-limited edition will ever be made available to the general public. All we know is that they've been refurbished in two finishes: white-washed ash wood and natural air-dried walnut.

Whenever Bose introduces a successful product, you can almost guarantee that an extravagant, limited-edition version will follow suit soon. Recently, we saw a diamond-encrusted version of the Ultra Open Earbuds, which were far too flashy for my colleagues, but I couldn't help but admire the $9,000 earbuds' opulence.

The collaboration between Bose, Kith, and Mark Jupiter is leveraging technology to give the iconic 901 speakers a contemporary makeover for the future. With advancements in audio engineering, these limited-edition speakers promise an exceptional audio experience.
