Brazilian Man Arrested for Alleged Role in FBI InfraGard Leak
Brazilian authorities have arrested a 33-year-old man suspected of being 'NOAA', a prolific cybercriminal. The arrest follows a series of high-profile data breaches and leaks, including the infiltration of the FBI's InfraGard program and the theft of National Public Data. The suspect, identified as Rodrigo Machado from Minas Gerais, Brazil, used the hacker pseudonyms 'Equation Corp' and 'NetSec'. In 2022, he managed to social-engineer his way into the FBI's InfraGard program, leaking contact information for 80,000 members. Machado admitted to stealing data from National Public Data, though he claimed no involvement in leaking or selling it. He planned to launch a platform for acquiring military intelligence from the United States. Machado was first named as 'NOAA' by a tech news outlet, Tecmundo, in August 2024. His arrest was reported by TV Globo, with a 33-year-old man from Belo Horizonte taken into custody. He is wanted domestically in Brazil for the theft of data on Brazilian Federal Police officers. Machado's arrest marks a significant development in the investigation of several major data breaches. His alleged involvement in the InfraGard leak and the National Public Data breach has raised concerns about cybersecurity and data protection. The full extent of his activities and any potential co-conspirators remain under investigation.
