Brazil's First Win Against Streaming Fraud: Court Rules Against Seguidores
A significant victory against streaming fraud has been achieved in Brazil. The Court in São Paulo has ruled against Seguidores Marketing Digital Ltda, marking the first decision under 'Operation Authentica'.
The Court ordered Seguidores to halt its deceptive practices or face penalties. It found the company liable for misleading advertising, consumer fraud, and violations of constitutional rights. The ruling came after Seguidores was caught generating fake followers, likes, and streams on platforms such as Spotify, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram.
President of Pro-Música Brasil, Paulo Rosa, welcomed the decision. He pledged to collaborate with authorities to safeguard the legitimate music market. IFPI CEO, Victoria Oakley, echoed this sentiment, stating that the ruling sets a strong legal precedent against those manipulating the online music environment.
Seguidores has appealed the ruling. However, the Court's decision sends a clear message that such fraudulent activities will not be tolerated. The ruling under 'Operation Authentica' is a significant step in combating streaming fraud and protecting consumers and the digital information system.
