NBCUniversal Local Introduces Redesigned Weather Products on Mobile Apps
In a bid to keep users informed and safe, NBCUniversal Local has unveiled its latest weather products on its mobile apps. The new experience, available from June 2023, is a result of extensive research, data, and user feedback, and is now accessible to users across its 30 U.S. markets and Puerto Rico, including major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Miami.
The updated weather experience offers a personalized approach, allowing users to curate how content modules are organized and presented. A simple tap on the 'new' setting will guide users through a walkthrough, introducing them to the updated weather experience and providing customization guidance.
The redesign features a streamlined layout and intuitive design, helping users quickly access essential data and information. The enhanced display uses larger fonts to increase legibility and employs easy-to-understand icons. The weather sections are now available in English and Spanish across all 35 NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations' apps for iOS and Android.
The new design also provides more control over the display of radar features, such as layers and overlays. Advanced settings help users more easily manage weather alerts and notifications, including new options for adding locations or accessing recent ones.
Lora Dennis, NBCU Local Executive Vice President of Multiplatform, stated, "Our mission is to provide extensive and accurate weather coverage in both English and Spanish. We believe this redesign will further enhance our users' experience, making it easier for them to stay informed and safe."
To access the new features, users without automatic updates must manually update the app. A highlighted 'new' setting will appear in the app settings after the update.
NBCUniversal Local has also added customization tools to the mobile apps of its NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations. The walkthrough highlights the key features of the updated weather experience, making it easier for users to navigate and utilise the new features effectively. The new version of the weather product will be automatically installed for users with updates enabled.
