Copper sulphide intervals of significant thickness are validated in ongoing explorations at the Storm Copper Project in Canada, maintaining a 100% success rate in discoveries.
American West Metals Limited has made significant strides at its Storm Copper Project on Somerset Island, Nunavut, during 2025. The project has seen ongoing high-grade copper intersections, both near the surface and at depth, as part of an extensive drilling program.
The drilling program has intersected thick, near-surface high-grade copper mineralisation, with nine diamond drill holes totalling 2,295 metres completed. One of the deep holes at the Cirrus Deposit intersected about 57 metres of sediment-hosted copper mineralisation, highlighting the potential for a widespread copper system at Storm [1][3].
Reverse circulation (RC) drilling has also yielded strong copper and silver grades. For instance, at the Corona prospect, a 12.2-metre interval was recorded with 1.9% copper and 77g/t silver from a depth of 19.8 metres. Higher-grade intervals, such as 4.6 metres at 3.2% copper and 129g/t silver, have also been found [1][3].
These results have extended the envelope of known mineralisation, and American West Metals is planning to convert these discoveries into resources. Further updates are expected as drilling progresses [1].
The company is also aggressively advancing the project towards development, including geotechnical drilling and pre-feasibility studies (PFS). Storm is identified as a nationally strategic critical minerals project under Canada’s 2025 Resource Project Fast-Track Bill, with historical data leveraged alongside recent exploration confirming high-grade zones over broad intervals, and approximately 53.9% direct shipping ore grade identified [5].
The recent drilling at the 4100N Zone has defined strong near-surface copper mineralization over 850m x 300m. Eight Reverse Circulation (RC) drill holes have been completed at this zone, all intersecting thick intervals of strong visual copper sulphides [4].
Moreover, Moving Loop EM crews have completed surveys at the 4100N, 2750N West, and Tempest Prospects, with data processing and interpretation to follow [4].
The drill hole SR23-01, the first drill hole completed in the 2023 drill program, forms part of a program designed to determine the resource potential of the near-surface 4100N Zone. The sulphide abundance and grade of the mineralised intervals within SR23-01 are very similar to that of the historical drill holes along section 465,000E, demonstrating good lateral continuity of the ore zones [2].
SR23-01 intersected three horizontal zones of vein and fracture style copper sulphide mineralisation hosted within fractured dolomite. Assays for drill hole SR23-01 confirm 28.9m of high-grade copper mineralization [2].
Dave O'Neill, Managing Director of American West Metals, expresses confidence in the geological interpretations and assumptions on the continuity of mineralized zones at the Storm Copper Project. He believes that the ongoing work will continue to unveil the full potential of the project [2].
Regional exploration during 2024 reaffirmed large-scale potential with near-deposit discoveries across the extensive mineralized belt, including prospects such as Cyclone, Chinook, and Squall, further supporting the potential for resource growth and possible project aggregation [2][5].
Additionally, copper and zinc mineralisation has been confirmed at the Tempest Prospect within the Storm property through reconnaissance sampling and geophysical surveys, opening a new area for exploration [4].
In summary, American West Metals is reporting ongoing high-grade copper intersections near surface and at depth at Storm, is expanding its resource base, and is advancing towards pre-feasibility and permitting with strong support from Canadian critical minerals strategies for near-term development [1][2][3][4][5].
