"Augsburg" Corvette Given Its Seaworthy Blessing in Hamburg!

Hamburg saw the baptism of the corvette 'Augsburg' - Corvette Augsburg formally named in Hamburg's shipyard ceremony.

Cheers, matey!

The "Augsburg" — the fourth vessel of its kind in the German Navy's arsenal — recently received a grand baptism in none other than Hamburg! This thrilling declaration came straight from the shipbuilding powerhouse, Lürssen, based in Bremen. Before setting sail on her maiden voyage, she'll undergo final fittings and testing at Blohm+Voss shipyard. While the exact date of her handover to the navy remains under wraps, get ready to see the "Augsburg" grace the seas soon!

Taking a moment to reflect on the connection between our city and the German Navy, Augsburg's jubilant mayor, Eva Weber (CSU), chimed in, "The sponsorship with the corvette 'Augsburg' symbolizes a powerful bond between our city and the German Navy."

Hailing from the illustrious Braunschweig class 130, the "Augsburg" is one of the five ships commissioned by the navy between 2008 and 2013. In 2017, an order for an additional five corvettes followed, with Lürssen once more steering the shipbuilding maelstrom under the Naval Vessels Lürssen (NVL) umbrella. Joining forces in this endeavor are marine companies ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems and German Naval Yards, based in hallowed Kiel.

Only the corvette "Lübeck" awaits its christening among the new fleet. Though we're on the lookout for an official date on this milestone event, stay tuned as the "Lübeck" will soon follow in the "Augsburg"'s mighty wake! Lürssen reports that the five corvettes in production are currently at the Blohm+Voss shipyard. The "Augsburg," "Cologne," "Emden," and "Karlsruhe" have all been christened, with the "Lübeck" next in line to take the plunge!

These steel behemoths are designed and optimized for operations near the coast, particularly excelling in reconnaissance and combat in the North and Baltic Seas. So buckle up, wallet-loving pirates — it's a new era of naval domination!
