Cryptocurrency firm BTC Digital bolsters Ethereum holdings with a fresh $5M investment
In a strategic move, BTC Digital, a North American blockchain company, has announced its intention to focus on Ethereum and build a substantial Ethereum reserve. The shift comes as a result of Ethereum's emergence as a leading platform for decentralized finance (DeFi), real-world asset tokenization, and scalable smart-contract innovation.
The company, which operates various blockchain businesses including mining operations and data center management, plans to convert all its Bitcoin holdings into Ethereum. This move is part of a long-term digital asset strategy, as BTC Digital sees Ethereum not just as a digital asset but as the foundational infrastructure for the global digital economy.
BTC Digital's CEO, Siguang Peng, stated, "Ethereum represents the foundational infrastructure of the global digital economy, offering more productive and diversified on-chain opportunities than Bitcoin."
The company has already taken steps to implement this strategy. Following a successful $6 million financing round, BTC Digital has acquired $5 million in Ethereum, bringing its total holdings to 2,135 ETH. The acquisition was confirmed through a press release on July 21, 2025. BTC Digital has also introduced a reserve program that involves both ETH and BTC holdings, with a $1 million Bitcoin reserve and no further Bitcoin purchases planned.
BTC Digital's current ratio of 27.49 indicates strong liquidity, and the company expects its Ethereum reserves to play a role in future blockchain developments in North America. The Ethereum reserve is intended to support upcoming projects in areas such as DeFi and stablecoin systems.
The recent $5M ETH purchase is part of BTC Digital's strategy to shift focus from Bitcoin to Ethereum. The company plans to continue buying Ethereum as part of its long-term Ethereum accumulation strategy and aims to expand its Ethereum reserves to "tens of millions of dollars" by the end of the year.
This strategic shift positions BTC Digital at the forefront of next-generation blockchain finance and infrastructure development in North America and beyond. More information on BTC Digital's projects can be found on its investor relations website.
