Cyber Sports Academy to be formed in Kazakhstan for growth in electronic gaming

In a recent press conference held in SCK, Vice-Minister Serik Zharsabayev of Tourism and Sports for the Republic of Kazakhstan (RK) announced plans to establish an Academy for the Development of Esports after the international multi-sport tournament, 'Fijital' 'Future Games', scheduled for 2026.

The Vice-Minister's statement was reported by Vechernyaya Astana, highlighting the immense commercial potential of esports events, with substantial prize funds. The announcement marks a significant step forward for the esports sector in Kazakhstan, which has been actively promoted by the Federation of Esports in the country for many years.

While there is evidence of active esports participation by Kazakhstani teams in international competitions, such as the modeame team's victory against Wildcard Academy in a recent CS2 (CS:GO) match in July 2025, it appears that any formal esports academy may not yet be established or major announcements about such efforts have not been published broadly as of mid-2025.

The absence of explicit details in recent news or official university updates from Kazakhstan’s technical institutions like IITU, which regularly posts about educational and technology-related developments, suggests that the esports academy initiative may not have been widely publicised yet. However, it is possible that the development in esports in Kazakhstan may currently be through team participation and smaller-scale organizations rather than a formal national-level esports academy.

As esports continues to gain global attention, further updates from Kazakhstani educational or sports authorities are expected in the future as the sector grows in prominence. The establishment of the Academy for the Development of Esports in Kazakhstan could be a significant milestone for the country's esports scene and its global standing in the industry.

The Vice-Minister's announcement of an esports academy in Kazakhstan signals a potential merger of technology and sports, as the academic institution is expected to leverage advanced technology to foster the development of esports. should the academy come to fruition, it could help elevate Kazakhstan's sports sector, as esports grows in global popularity, and potentially introduce cutting-edge sports technology to the country.
