In a recent report titled "The Internet of Agents: The Next Threat Surface", cybersecurity company Radware has raised concerns about the growing attack surface created by autonomous AI agents powered by large language models (LLMs).

The report highlights that conventional security tools may not be equipped to handle this emerging layer of infrastructure, opening opportunities for solution providers, Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs), and resellers to deliver managed services such as red-teaming, agent monitoring, and policy enforcement.

One of the key findings in the report is the shrinking window between a vulnerability disclosure and functional exploit code in the wild. According to Radware, this window could potentially shrink to hours or minutes. This rapid exploit development is a concern, with examples showing AI agents like GPT-4 generating functional exploits from vulnerability descriptions faster than seasoned researchers.

The report also warns that the increasing use of AI agents may lower the barrier for cybercrime due to the new vulnerabilities they introduce. These vulnerabilities can provide pathways for attack, including indirect prompt injection, tool poisoning, and lateral compromise.

Radware's research suggests the emergence of malicious AI platforms that offer "full attack kill chain tooling" to both novice and experienced actors. Subscription services like XanthoroxAI are industrializing cybercrime by providing attackers with ready-made, agentic frameworks for reconnaissance, exploitation, and persistence.

One such proof-of-concept exploit, labeled EchoLeak, allows attackers to chain indirect prompt injections with agentic access privileges. EchoLeak can silently extract sensitive data or trigger unauthorized transactions without human involvement, raising questions about how difficult it will be to contain risks in autonomous ecosystems.

As enterprises deploy AI systems into workflows and customer-facing operations, many are expected to turn to channel partners for practical strategies on governance and protection. Channel firms that move early to build expertise in securing AI-driven environments are likely to gain an edge as customers seek trusted guidance.

Several companies are already responding to this emerging threat. Qualys offers Agentic AI as a marketplace for autonomous Cyber Risk Agents to intelligently control security processes and automated vulnerability remediation. Palo Alto Networks provides Cortex Cloud ASPM, a platform for recognising and blocking risks in autonomous AI environments. NVIDIA offers a comprehensive security concept for autonomous vehicles and robotics with NVIDIA Halos. Stellar Cyber develops AI-powered SIEM systems for threat detection and response, and Innowise realises secure AI solutions with certifications for data protection and security.

The adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent (A2A) interaction standards has expanded how agents plug into corporate systems. However, the operation of autonomous AI agents across enterprise networks in ways that traditional security controls are not built to handle is a challenge that needs to be addressed.
