Debut at IAA Transportation with Four Solar Trailer Introductions by Our Organization
Munich-based solar mobility OEM, Sono Group N.V., is set to make its debut at IAA Transportation with an array of innovative solutions for buses, electric transporters, and refrigerated vehicles. The organisation, whose mission is to make every vehicle solar, will showcase its groundbreaking Solar Bus Kit - a retrofit solution designed to integrate solar energy technology into existing bus fleets.
The Solar Bus Kit is a game-changer in the realm of public transportation, offering a practical and cost-effective approach to reducing urban transportation emissions and supporting climate goals. The retrofit solution primarily achieves this by harnessing solar power to supplement the bus's energy needs, thereby lowering fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions.
The Kit includes solar panels engineered for seamless integration into a variety of vehicle architectures, including third-party OEM cars, buses, refrigerated vehicles, and recreational vehicles. For instance, a 40t semi-truck trailer, refrigerated, from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Transport Europe GmbH, will be on display at IAA Transportation with a total power installed of 4.68 kilowatt peak, 26 modules, and a solar area of ~26 m2 (roof only). Similarly, a solar-powered bus with a total power installed of 9.8 kilowatt peak, 54 modules, and a solar area of ~58.9 m2 (roof plus sides) will be showcased at the Daikin booth.
The Solar Bus Kit is optimized for common 12-meter public transport bus types, including the Mercedes-Benz Citaro and MAN Lion's City. By retrofitting these buses, up to 1,500 liters of diesel and up to 4 tonnes of CO2 per bus per year can be saved, with a potential payback time of approximately 3-4 years.
In addition to the environmental benefits, the Solar Bus Kit comes with dashboards for fleet operators. These dashboards provide insights on solar energy yield, fuel savings, and CO2 reduction, allowing operators to track environmental benefits and optimize fleet performance further.
Sono Group N.V.'s Solar Bus Kit promises to revolutionise the transportation industry, offering a scalable and sustainable solution for climate-friendly mobility.
