DFDS Aims for Sustainable Fleet with Battery Vessels and Electric Trucks by 2030

DFDS, a leading Danish shipping and logistics company, has revealed ambitious plans to transition its fleet to sustainable operations. By 2030, it aims to have up to six battery-powered vessels crossing the Channel between Europe and the UK. Additionally, DFDS expects a 14% growth in the transport sector between Turkey and Europe by 2028, driven by nearshoring activities.

DFDS is investing heavily in electric vehicles to achieve its sustainability goals. It has ordered 100 Volvo electric trucks, nearly doubling its fleet of etrucks. These trucks will be deployed across Europe, further expanding DFDS's commitment to green transport. The company is also expanding its intermodal logistics connections by adding road transport to its Mediterranean ferry network.

DFDS is partnering with Ekol, a Turkish logistics company, to offer end-to-end transport solutions between Turkey and Europe. This collaboration will include distribution services and warehousing, providing a comprehensive logistics network for customers. DFDS's CEO, Torben Carlsen, believes Turkey's role as a manufacturing hub for Europe will strengthen in the future due to nearshoring trends.

DFDS's plans to operate battery-powered vessels and expand its electric truck fleet demonstrate its commitment to sustainable transport. Its partnership with Ekol and expectations for growth in the Turkey-EU transport sector show the company's strategic focus on this region. These initiatives position DFDS at the forefront of green logistics in Europe.
