Digital Progress in Liechtenstein: eID.li 2.0 Extends the Nation's Digital Success Saga
In a significant stride towards digital innovation, Liechtenstein has unveiled the updated version of its digital ID platform, eID.li 2.0. Developed by Youniqx Identity AG, a subsidiary of the Austrian OeSD, this new version is designed to meet the upcoming demands of EU-wide eIDAS wallet compatibility and put Liechtenstein in a leading position for implementing future EU requirements quickly and efficiently.
Helmut Lackner, CEO of Youniqx Identity AG and Director General of OeSD, is proud to deliver eID.li 2.0, which promises to revolutionise digital identity for many Liechtenstein citizens. Lackner emphasises the importance of digital identity being both secure and user-friendly to ensure acceptance by users.
The technological advancements in eID.li 2.0 include improved security measures for offline protection, compliance with Common Criteria EAL 5+ for electronic Machine Readable Travel Documents (eMRTD), and the adoption of international standard ISO/IEC 18013-5 for digital driver's licenses. These enhancements aim to ensure that eID.li 2.0 meets stringent EU digital identity standards and ensures interoperability across EU member states.
The update also offers a more intuitive and user-friendly experience, with faster identity checks at borders and security checkpoints, simplified administration, and automatic data size detection. Moreover, eID.li 2.0 employs ultra-thin contactless coil-on-module packaging technology, reducing the physical thickness of electronic data pages, lowering document production costs, and minimising the carbon footprint.
The redesigned interface of eID.li 2.0 also supports the new EU-wide eIDAS wallet, making it ready for the upcoming eIDAS 2.0 regulations. Additionally, users can now receive push notifications directly in the eID.li app, ensuring a more seamless and efficient user experience.
Since its introduction in 2020, Liechtenstein's digital ID platform, eID.li, has been providing users with secure access to various official administrative services and digital credentials. The platform has demonstrated flexibility during the COVID pandemic by rapidly integrating the international vaccination passport. With eID.li 2.0, Liechtenstein reaffirms its leading role in digital innovation.
Under the leadership of Helmut Lackner, Youniqx Identity AG continues to contribute to making digital identity a reality for many Liechtenstein citizens, setting a high standard for digital identity solutions in Europe and beyond. The eID.li app is now available in both German and English, making it accessible to a wider audience.
With eID.li 2.0, Liechtenstein is taking a significant step towards EU integration, offering a secure, user-friendly, and environmentally conscious digital identification solution that is ready to meet the demands of the modern digital world.
