The eighth edition of the Global Business Forum, themed "Designing the Future," kicked off this week at The Ambassador Seoul -- A Pullman Hotel. Hosted by The our website and Herald Business, the 14-week forum convenes every Wednesday through Dec. 23, featuring diplomats from 29 countries and 16 guest speakers across sectors.

Gareth Weir, charge d'affaires at the British Embassy in Korea, opened the forum, describing Korea and the UK as natural allies. He pointed to the strength of their existing ties, highlighting that last year, the two countries elevated their relationship to a global strategic partnership.

Weir emphasized that the UK and Korea are natural partners in their pursuit of innovation and sustainability. He suggested potential areas of collaboration, including building sustainable cities, strengthening financial services, and exploring opportunities in emerging industries such as clean energy and cultural exchange.

The current global landscape is increasingly volatile, according to Weir, making this moment a call for renewed partnerships due to short-term disruptions and structural transformations. He expressed hope for expanded ties in culture and sports between the UK and Korea.

Lee Nam-sik, president of JEI University and academic adviser to the GBF, gave a lecture outlining Korea's potential in artificial intelligence. He emphasized the need to focus on robotics-based AI beyond language models, for AI to enter the industrial domain. If Korea accelerates efforts in robot-type AI, he stated, it has the potential to lead the next phase of AI advancement.

The Global Business Forum provides a platform for Korean entrepreneurs and CEOs to explore long-term strategies for innovation and resilience. This year's edition is no exception, offering a unique opportunity for participants to discuss and collaborate on shaping the future of business and technology.
