Under the hood, the Switch 2 boasts a 128-bit LPDDR5 memory with a bandwidth of 102GB/s (docked) or 68GB/s (handheld), with 3GB reserved for system memory. The Switch 2 maintains a similar design to the original Switch, but features a larger screen, improved Joy-Con controllers, and a more sturdy kickstand. The Joy-Con controllers are magnetically connected and can be used as a mouse in certain games. The new Joy-Con controllers, unfortunately, do not address the Joy-Con drift issues present in the original Switch.
The Switch 2 comes with an improved Pro Controller featuring a C button for the new GameChat feature, an audio jack, and customizable back buttons.
Games and Compatibility
The Nintendo Switch 2 offers a variety of exciting games, including exclusive new titles and enhanced versions of fan favorites. Notable games include "Mario Kart World", "Metroid Prime 4: Beyond", "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch Edition", "Deltarune", "No Man's Sky", "Cyberpunk 2077", "Street Fighter 6", and "Hollow Knight".
Not every game will be compatible with the Switch 2, but existing Switch games will receive frame rate and performance boosts. The Switch 2 also supports DLSS and ray tracing technology, although specific details about these features are yet to be disclosed.
Additional Features
The Switch 2 has 2 USB Type-C ports, a built-in mic with noise-cancelling technology, and a microSD card slot that supports microSD Express. The console uses the new Virtual Game Card system to make sharing digital games between consoles easier.
The screen of the Nintendo Switch 2 is 7.9-inches, 1080p HDR, and has a VRR of 120Hz. The audio output is 3D audio and it has stereo speakers. The Switch 2 does not have any form of achievements.
Launch and Pricing
The Nintendo Switch 2 is available now at a price of $499 or $500 for the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World bundle. The launch lineup is limited, with "Mario Kart World" and "Donkey Kong Bananza" being the main titles.
Several Switch games can be upgraded to Nintendo Switch 2 Editions for a fee, but the cost has not been disclosed yet. The Switch 2 does not offer an OLED option at launch.
Third-Party Support
There is good third-party support for the Switch 2, with games like "Cyberpunk 2077" and "Yakuza 0: Director's Cut" available.
