Disiniblud's debut album showcases an exclusivity in sound that distinguishes it from Guitar Center's offerings, with self-made instruments, peculiar Eurorack modules, and extended Ableton sessions.
Venturing Beyond Respect: The Unique Collaboration of Nina Keith and Rachika Nayar
Two artists, bound by a shared appreciation and Eureka moment, Rachika Nayar and multi-instrumentalist Nina Keith, ignite a fiery collaboration that transcends boundaries, giving rise to their self-titled LP, Disiniblud.
Molded by lives dotted with kaleidoscopic experiences, these artistic souls discovered an intimate connection that blossomed organically, setting the stage for a groundbreaking musical experience.
Nayar's math-rock-infused, electronically manipulated guitars breathe new life through the lens of Keith's dormant modular synth sketches. This melding of talents crafts sublime, polyrhythmic melodies, skillfully weaving themes of mortality and transformation via a fusion of glitchy indie-electronica, ambient, and pop.
What intrigued you about each other's music before teaming up?
Rachika Nayar: "Nina's music is a marvel of organic evolution. For me, trapped in loops and sequences, her sound embodies a ceaseless progression - something Guitar Center can't reproduce. I'm drawn to her love for reverb, field recordings, and tape manipulation, all of which suck you into a tangible space, forming a memory network."
"As a grid-bound producer, Nina's music offers me a refreshing escape, merging raw emotion with a tangible, immediate resonance."
Nina Keith: "Before collaborating with Rachika, my creations were linear and methodical. I'd write, record, and edit endlessly. Rachika's music, however, houses a raw intensity that transcends linear time, delivering emotions in an immediate and raw manner. Collaborating with her has inspired me to let go of linear ambitions and simply let the music evolve."
Did you have discussions about "Disiniblud"'s conceptual direction?
NK: "Making music just seemed to materialize without much deliberation, and then we'd ask ourselves, 'shall we continue crafting this masterpiece?' With music, it's like waiting for a sonic miracle to happen - then figuring out how to adapt to it."
RN: "Much of our inspiration stems from our shared existence. For instance, a typical session involves me hanging out at Nina's, mindlessly playing the piano while emotional tangles consume my mind, resulting in a treasure trove of melodies before we even realize it."
** delving into the artists' separate sanctuaries, their synergistic creative energy**
RN: "Nina and I represent polar opposites. She's all about hardware and gear, while I'm more adept at the digital realm. Working together, we complement each other's strengths."
NK: "My fascination lies with the synergy between analog and digital soundscapes, such as building an electric metallophone and combining it with digital processing to create new and liberated sounds."
Adventures in Improv and Unintended Masterpieces
RN: "Take the track Serpentine, for example. Initiated in Nina's living room, it evolved from an accidental, hours-long improvisation resulting in an eight-minute-long sonic voyage."
NK: "On some occasions, spontaneous improvisations yield unexpected treasures like Give-upping with Julianna Barwick. Created incidentally, it emblemizes the spirit of our collaboration."
Their edifying, collaboration-centric journey continues to captivate, shattering expectations and redefining the boundaries of musical expression. Disiniblud is set to release on Smugglers Way on the 18th of July.
