Dresden to Become Europe's AI Hub with 'Elbjuwel' Supercomputer
Dresden is set to become a major hub for AI and computing power in Europe. ParTec AG and Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) are collaborating to build a world-class supercomputer, 'Elbjuwel', aimed at providing digital sovereignty for the region and beyond.
The project, led by ParTec CEO Bernhard Frohwitter, emphasizes the importance of on-site computing power for collaboration and synergy. HZDR's Scientific Director Prof. Sebastian M. Schmidt sees the platform as a key player in AI technology development, specialist training, and digitization support.
The platform will focus on AI and machine learning, high-performance computing, and quantum computing. It will facilitate access for both industry and scientific institutions, with ProKI Dresden, an AI demonstration and transfer center, set to benefit from the new platform. Local calculations and simulations will be enabled, boosting the region's AI capabilities.
The 'Elbjuwel' supercomputer, a joint venture between HZDR and ParTec AG, is poised to strengthen Germany and Europe's position in AI and computing power. With a focus on AI and machine learning, high-performance computing, and quantum computing, the platform aims to provide digital sovereignty and support local AI initiatives like ProKI Dresden.
