The electric M3, the latest addition to BMW's high-performance lineup, is currently being tested at the famed Nürburgring race track. According to a report by statesidesupercars on YouTube, the electric M3 prototype has already made its appearance on the track, showcasing its potential.

During a hot lap, the electric M3 prototype, despite its innovative powertrain, demonstrated a remarkably aggressive pace. However, it hopped the curb with all four wheels, indicating a possible imbalance in its handling or an overzealous driving style. Regardless, the driver resumed the lap with renewed vigour, suggesting BMW's commitment to making the electric M3 dynamically similar to its gas-powered counterpart.

While the exact output of the electric M3 is yet to be confirmed, it is expected to fall below the 700 hp mark. This could mean a slightly different driving experience compared to the gas-powered M3, but the focus seems to be on maintaining the iconic M dynamics.

The electric M3 is not the only electric performance vehicle BMW is working on. The returning X3 M will also be an electric high-performance crossover, and an all-wheel-drive version of the electric M3 is expected as well.

M engineers are also working to counteract the extra mass that comes with an electric powertrain, a challenge they are eager to overcome. However, a quad-motor, 1000+ hp electric M3 is not planned for the immediate future.

Interestingly, the M3's sibling, the "ZA0", is already familiar at the Nürburgring. The M3 "ZA0" will be the first M of the Neue Klasse era, marking a new chapter in BMW's performance lineup.

Meanwhile, the BMW i3 ("NA0") has not yet been revealed by the company. M versions of the i3 Touring and iX4 could also be released before the end of the decade, expanding the electric M lineup further.

As for the driver of the electric M3 prototype during the race lap at the Nürburgring track, their identity remains unknown at this time.

The "G84" M3 with a mild-hybrid inline-six engine will debut in 2028, marking the return of the traditional M3. Until then, the electric M3 continues its testing at the Nürburgring, promising an exciting future for BMW's performance division.
