Emirates Group to Transfer Data Centre to World's Largest Solar-Powered Facility Through Partnership with Moro Hub
The Emirates Group has announced a significant move in its digital transformation and sustainability journey. The group is relocating its data center operations to the world's largest solar-powered data facility at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
This shift aligns with Dubai’s sustainability ambitions and leverages the solar park’s rapidly expanding capacity. By 2026, the park's capacity is set to exceed 4,660 MW, and by 2030, it aims to reach over 5,000 MW.
Key Details and Benefits
The data center will be powered by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, currently the largest single-site solar park worldwide, located about 50 km outside Dubai. The facility, which houses nearly 800,000 solar panels, is cleaned autonomously to maintain efficiency.
The benefits of this move are numerous. Using solar power drastically reduces the carbon footprint of the data center operations. Integration with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s (DEWA) smart infrastructure, including advanced Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, ensures real-time monitoring and high reliability.
Moreover, this relocation supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to produce 75% of Dubai’s energy from clean sources by 2050. The project also benefits from public-private partnerships under the UAE’s Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, which encourages private sector innovation and investment in renewable technologies.
Timeline
The solar park’s sixth phase, which will notably increase its capacity, reached financial closing in mid-2025 and is expected to elevate total capacity to 4,660 MW by 2026. The data center relocation corresponds with this timeline to capitalize on the enhanced renewable energy availability.
Partnership and Certification
The Emirates Group has partnered with Moro Hub, a subsidiary of Digital DEWA. Moro Hub will provide a full suite of co-location services, including rack space, power, cooling, and equipment supply. The data facility is certified by Guinness World Records.
The agreement was formalised by Michael Doersam, Chief Financial & Group Services Officer of the Emirates Group, and Eng. Marwan Bin Haidar, Vice Chairman & Group CEO of Digital DEWA.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), commented on the agreement, but specific comments were not provided in the text.
The relocation of the Emirates Group's data center operations will take place mid-2026. This strategic move underscores Emirates Group’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, benefiting from UAE’s leader position in clean energy infrastructure through projects like the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
The partnership further emphasizes Dubai's ambition to lead globally in green technology and sustainable economic development.
