Employees' emails at Five Guys have reportedly been hacked.

In a surprising turn of events, fast-food chain Five Guys announced a security breach on June 7, 2023, resulting from a business email compromise. The incident, which affected only three Maine residents, was promptly addressed by the company.

The breach was traced back to two email accounts that were compromised. The first account was accessed between March 20 and March 31, while the second account was compromised between May 31 and June 7. Five Guys immediately enacted its incident response plans and secured the accounts after the breach was discovered.

The company, which operates approximately 1,700 locations worldwide, has taken additional measures to prevent a similar incident. The CEO of Five Guys, Chamberlain, issued an apology in a letter and assured customers that the necessary steps were being taken to bolster security.

Five Guys retained an outside cybersecurity firm with experience handling similar incidents following the breach. However, the total number of individuals impacted by the June 2023 breach remains undisclosed.

It's important to note that there is no publicly documented or reported data related to a May 2023 security breach at Five Guys. This suggests either no breach occurred at that time or it was not publicly disclosed or widely reported.

In a separate incident, Five Guys agreed to settle a federal class action lawsuit involving a September 2022 incident. Files linked to Five Guys' employment process were impacted, affecting more than 37,000 individuals.

The security researcher Dominic Alvieri claimed in a February post that BlackCat/AlphV took responsibility for attacking Five Guys. However, Five Guys has not officially confirmed this claim.

Despite multiple attempts, a spokesperson for Five Guys and an attorney for BakerHostetler, listed as outside counsel for Five Guys, were not immediately available for comment.

For accurate and up-to-date details, checking official Five Guys communications, cybersecurity news outlets focusing on the restaurant industry, or data breach notification platforms might be necessary.
