Enhancing Grid Stability through High-Tech Network Centre: DEWA's New Approach to Smart Grid Reinforcement

Dubai's power distribution network receives a significant boost with the launch of the Distribution Network Smart Centre (DNSC) by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA). This advancement marks a significant milestone in DEWA's Smart Grid Strategy 2021-2035.

The DNSC, established in January 2024, automates critical services across Dubai's power distribution network by analyzing over 15 million data points daily. This automation enables smarter maintenance, quicker responses, and enhanced service reliability.

The DNSC plays a pivotal role in overseeing three key DEWA initiatives: advanced metering infrastructure for electricity, the Shams Dubai rooftop solar program, and the EV Green Charger network. Collectively, these initiatives contribute to Dubai's energy sustainability and eco-friendly transport objectives.

Utilizing big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, the DNSC automates real-time data collection and response actions. It can monitor smart electricity meters, provide valuable insights, and minimize the need for human intervention in maintenance and diagnostics, resulting in more efficient services and minimized outages.

DEWA's Managing Director and CEO, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, explained that the DNSC is integral to creating an integrated smart system capable of proactive, data-driven solutions. Rashid bin Humaidan, Executive Vice President of Distribution Power at DEWA, added that the centre enhances customer satisfaction by enabling rapid, automated action and supporting future planning through intelligent dashboards.

Every electricity meter in Dubai has been converted to a smart meter, allowing for remote readings and customer transparency via the DEWA smart app. Additionally, the DNSC monitors the performance and technical requirements of EV charging stations across Dubai, ensuring seamless support for the city's growing electric vehicle infrastructure.

In pursuit of digital transformation and sustainable energy, the DNSC remains a significant step towards Dubai's vision of an intelligent, eco-conscious energy future.

  1. The DNSC, through data-and-cloud-computing, utilizes artificial-intelligence and machine learning to automate real-time data collection and response actions, enhancing the reliability of Dubai's power distribution network as part of its transformation towards an intelligent, eco-conscious energy future.
  2. The integration of advanced metering infrastructure for electricity, the Shams Dubai rooftop solar program, and the EV Green Charger network, overseen by the DNSC, contributes significantly to Dubai's sustainability and eco-friendly transport objectives, pushing the city towards a greener future.
  3. As Dubai strives for digital transformation and sustainable energy, the DNSC provides proactive, data-driven solutions by monitoring smart electricity meters, minimizing human intervention, and ensuring seamless support for the city's growing electric vehicle infrastructure in the future.
