The Lowdown on Spark's $1B Expansion in Tokenized U.S. Treasuries

Expanded Investment of $1 Billion by Spark in Pioneering Tokenized Securities Market

In a nutshell

Spark, a part of the revamped Sky (ex-MakerDAO) ecosystem, is pouring a whopping $1B into tokenized U.S. Treasury-backed Real-world Assets (RWAs), boosting its total Treasury Locked Value (TVL) to an impressive $2.4B.

The breakdown

The fresh funds are allocated to the same recipients from Spark's Tokenization Grand Prix—BlackRock/Securitize's BUIDL, Superstate's USTB, and Centrifuge-Anemoy's JTRSY. Spark now claims over two-thirds of the $3.5B tokenized U.S. Treasuries market, solidifying its lead in on-chain RWA deployment.

The details

The Tokenization Grand Prix, launched in July 2024, called for asset issuers to propose RWA products for Spark's stablecoin-backed treasury. The 39 applications were scrutinized by Steakhouse Financial, focusing on liquidity, price transparency, and alignment with Spark's aim of integrating low-volatility, yield-generating assets into DeFi.

Deployed via Spark's Liquidity Layer, the funds provide enhanced exposure to tokenized RWAs. BlackRock's BUIDL houses approximately $2.81B in tokenized U.S. Treasuries, making it the largest among the winners. Superstate's USTB follows suit with $490.7M, while Centrifuge's JTRSY stands at $237.1M.

Although Spark's role within Sky has grown since the governance overhaul, its combined $2.4B deployment places it ahead of peers. Recent data suggests that the market value of tokenized U.S. Treasuries could be as high as $6.5B, implying that Spark's market conquest might still have room for expansion.
