Exploring the Enhanced Capabilities: Meta's Latest Oakley Smart Glasses Elevate Wearable Tech in the Realm of Connected Specs
A Fresh Look at the Oakley Meta HSTN Smart Glasses
The Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced HOW-stuhn) smart glasses, a collaboration between Meta and Oakley, are making waves as the latest AI-powered eyewear, aimed at athletes and those who lead active lifestyles.
Dubbed 'Performance AI glasses', these bad boys come with the Meta AI voice assistant, allowing you to control a range of functions hands-free. For example, you can start a recording using the built-in camera just by using your voice.
The battery life takes a significant leap compared to previous Meta specs, promising an impressive eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. This is quite a boost from the four hours of typical use claimed by the Ray-Ban Meta, although our review showed that they could last an entire day when recording sessions were kept to a minimum.
Just like the best wireless earbuds, the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses come with a charging case. This case provides an additional 40 hours of charge on-the-go. Impressively, you can refill the battery from 0% to 50% in 22 minutes, and an 80% charge will take 45 minutes.
The 12MP camera positioned at the top-right of the frame can capture 3K resolution, Ultra HD video. This is a major improvement compared to the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that recorded only in 1,440 x 1,920.
Recording sessions are made clear with a 'capture LED' in the opposite corner that lights up when the camera is recording or live streaming. This LED will remain unlit if the light is blocked, disallowing any recording until it's uncovered.
The Oakley Meta HSTN glasses also boast open-ear speakers, allowing you to listen to music, podcasts, and make phone calls. Despite their open design, they're IPX4 rated, making them resistant to splashes and sprays of water and sweat – ideal for those intense workouts.
The Oakley Meta HSTN price comes in at $399 and will be available initially in 15 countries later this summer, including the US, Canada, and the UK. More countries, such as India, Mexico, and the UAE, will be added later in the year. For the truly exclusive, there's a limited edition Desert 24k Prizm Polar version available from July 11 for $499.
Remember, while these smart glasses have impressive capabilities, they're not designed to provide the same movie streaming experience as smartphones or tablets. If you're looking to stream the newest movies on services like Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, or HBO Max, you'll want to stick with a dedicated viewing device. Enjoy the action, and happy streaming!
The Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses are not just limited to sports and active lifestyles; they also function as a hub for a variety of smart-home devices, thanks to their integration with popular gadgets and advanced technology. Moreover, after a long day of using smart gadgets, one can unwind with their favorite sports, secure in the knowledge that the Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, with their IPX4 water-resistance feature, can handle sweat and splashes.
