Express Entry Pool Shifts: CRS Changes Impact 8,342 Candidates
The Express Entry candidate pool has witnessed significant shifts following the removal of arranged employment points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). As of 14 April 2025, the total number of candidates stands at 244,282.
The greatest change occurred within the 501-600 CRS score range, where 5,740 profiles decreased. This range, along with 491-500 and 481-490, saw a combined exodus of 8,342 profiles between 16 March and 14 April. Despite this, the pool grew by 7,373 profiles, likely due to the points removal redistributing candidates.
The largest increase was seen in the 461-470 range, with 2,157 additional profiles. This could be due to candidates moving down from higher score ranges. The current CRS score composition includes core factors (up to 500 points), spouse factors (up to 40 points), skill transferability (up to 100 points), and additional points (up to 600 points). Thousands of candidates have experienced score drops of either 50 or 200 points, affecting their chances of receiving an invitation to apply (ITA) for Canadian permanent residence (PR).
The Express Entry candidate pool has seen significant redistribution following the removal of arranged employment CRS points. While some score ranges have seen a decrease in profiles, the overall pool has grown. Candidates should be aware of the changes and how they may impact their chances of receiving an ITA for PR.
