BASF, a global leader in chemical production, is set to introduce a game-changing product in the German agriculture sector. Luximo, a new herbicide developed for field horsetail and couch grass control, is expected to enter German practice in 2027.

Luximo's development pipeline is part of BASF's 110-year commitment to agricultural research, with the company investing approximately 2.5 million euros daily in this area. The application guidelines for Luximo are consistent with those for other soil herbicides.

The active ingredient in Luximo boasts a novel mechanism of action, offering a potential solution to the growing challenge of new pests, diseases, and extreme weather conditions. This innovative herbicide has already been approved in the UK since 2022, following its full development since 2018.

The approval process for Luximo's active ingredient is expected to be completed by 2026, paving the way for its introduction in Germany. The use of Luximo will be closely accompanied by local advisors to ensure its reliable and flexible application according to local soil conditions and weather conditions.

In addition to Luximo, BASF is set to launch other innovative agricultural apps. For instance, Divexo®, a fungicide effective against resistant fungal strains, will be available for the upcoming potato farming season. Divexo® boasts high rainfastness and UV stability, making it an ideal choice for farmers. The application rate for Divexo® is 2 l/ha, with a maximum of two applications per season possible.

Another innovation from BASF is Delan® SC, a product designed for viticulture. It will be launched in the 2026 season to control false mildew, featuring the well-established active ingredient Dithianon. Delan® SC offers excellent rainfastness, good miscibility, and a reduced active ingredient amount for effective disease control.

However, the practical implementation of these projects at BASF is being delayed by the EU and Germany's approval processes. Despite these challenges, BASF remains committed to delivering future solutions for the agriculture industry.

Maria Valtin, Head of Technology & Consulting Germany at BASF, expressed her excitement about the upcoming introductions, saying, "We are proud to be at the forefront of agricultural innovation, developing products like Luximo, Divexo®, and Delan® SC to address the challenges our farmers face. We believe these products will set a new standard for reliability and effectiveness against existing resistances, contributing significantly to the success of German agriculture."
