Faster Charging and Enhanced Features in the Rivian 2025.18 Software Update: Introduction of a New Energy App and Bolstered Security Measures
Rivian Unveils Redesigned Energy App for Enhanced Energy Management
Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has released an updated version of its Energy app, designed to provide R1T and R1S owners with a more comprehensive understanding of their vehicles' energy consumption. The new app includes two main sections: Charging and Energy Monitor, offering detailed insights and actionable features to optimize energy usage.
Energy Monitor Tab
The Energy Monitor tab offers real-time and historical data on energy usage while driving, parked, or charging. It shows actual vs. expected consumption, helping drivers understand how their behaviours affect range and providing tips for improved efficiency. The tab also breaks down energy consumption across various vehicle systems, such as Gear Guard, outlets, and climate control. Furthermore, the Energy Monitor tab allows users to view energy usage over selectable timeframes, offering a more in-depth analysis of their energy consumption patterns.
Charging Tab
The Charging tab features an interactive graph of charging sessions and recommends target charge levels for trips incorporating charging stops. It notifies users when the ideal charge level is reached, supporting better trip planning. Additionally, the Charging tab displays the recommended charge target for a trip that includes a charging stop.
On-Demand Battery Preconditioning
One of the key features of the new Energy app is On-Demand Battery Preconditioning, which allows users to heat or cool the battery to the optimal temperature for fast charging, enhancing charging speed and efficiency.
Improved Charge Time Accuracy
The redesigned Energy app displays precise charge curves and timings within the vehicle interface, providing users with a clear understanding of their charging progress.
Other Improvements
Rivian has also introduced Manual battery preconditioning, allowing owners to warm or cool the battery pack on demand. In addition, the company has fixed a rare issue that caused camera views and recorded videos to be unavailable in the Gear Guard app. The driver display has been enhanced to show a greater number of vehicles across five lanes and in more diverse situations.
Future Developments
Rivian's software roadmap includes the upcoming Smart Charging feature, allowing owners to schedule charging sessions during off-peak utility hours. Looking further ahead, bidirectional charging is expected to debut in 2026, enabling Rivian vehicles to power homes, devices, or even other EVs.
With these improvements, Rivian's Energy app enhances energy monitoring and control for R1T and R1S owners, making energy usage easier to visualize, more transparent, and controllable, thereby improving user peace of mind and driving experience.
