In the coastal regions of Pyhäjoki and Raahe, Finland, a substantial offshore wind project is taking shape. The Ebba wind farm, part of Metsähallitus' portfolio of projects in territorial waters, is set to have a capacity of 1.4 GW.

Metsähallitus, a Finnish state-owned company, is developing multiple offshore wind farms, including Ebba, Edith, and Korsnaäs. The Ebba project area has been designated for wind power production in both the Maritime Spatial Plan and the draft of the North Ostrobothnia energy and climate phase regional land use plan.

Arenso Oy, a Finnish company with expertise in developing power concepts suitable for the icy conditions of the Baltic Sea, has been selected by Metsähallitus to carry out the technical planning of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) programme phase for the Ebba project. Arenso's role includes early-stage technical design work that supports the EIA process and enables a more detailed assessment of turbine placement and marine infrastructure for the Ebba project.

Esa Holttinen, Business Director at Arenso, stated, "Our expertise in developing power concepts suitable for the icy conditions of the Baltic Sea will be applied in the planning of the Ebba project."

The planning work for the Ebba project will commence in autumn 2025. Meanwhile, Sweco, a company selected for the technical planning of the environmental compensation program, will begin their planning work in the autumn of 2023.

Finland has announced a 3 GW offshore wind project auction round, and the Ebba wind farm is one of the projects vying for a place in this round. The auction round is a significant step forward in Finland's commitment to renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions.

As the Ebba wind farm takes shape, it represents a significant investment in Finland's renewable energy future and a step towards a more sustainable energy landscape.
