Future of AI and Autonomous Vehicles in 2024: QSC | Q-SYS Discussion

In a keynote address at InfoComm 2024, Joe Pham, Chairman and CEO of QSC | Q-SYS, discussed the significant role Artificial Intelligence (AI) is expected to play in the AV industry. Pham, in his speech titled "Everything Has Changed: AV's Infinite Potential in an Exponential Age," outlined six specific areas where AI will be applied.

Pham's keynote emphasized that AI will enable smarter, more responsive AV environments, and scalable control systems. The six areas he highlighted are not explicitly detailed in the available data, but the general trend from related sources emphasizes AI's role in enhancing automation, personalization, voice control, system integration, intelligent command and control, and scalable centralized processing in AV environments.

One of the areas Pham discussed is Audio AI. This field includes advancements such as noise reduction, blind source separation, studio microphone speaker focus, event detection, and context awareness. Another area is Video AI, which focuses on quality in the user experience, including auto-switching, auto-cropping, auto-tracking, noise reduction, artifact reduction, studio relighting, scene analysis, and gesture analysis.

Workflow AI was also discussed, addressing the industry's long-standing problem of delivering consistent and quality user experiences through design, commissioning, managing, and monitoring.

In addition to these, Pham highlighted the applications of AI in various verticals, including theme parks, hotels, higher education, and sports bars. For instance, in theme parks, AI can enable shared immersive experiences, while in hotels, it can provide personalized experiences. In sports bars, AI can build a sense of local community.

Pham also mentioned the importance of generative AI as a catalyst for advancements in the digital signage industry and interactive and collaborative learning in higher education.

The keynote also highlighted the support of 15 manufacturers and 30 AV/IT thought leaders who are focusing on next-generation audio, streaming technologies, visualization technologies, esports, hybrid work, and 28 thought leaders discussing visualization technologies.

Pham concluded his keynote by quoting Satya Nadella, "AI will both lower the floor and raise the ceiling," meaning it will enable more consistent user experiences and exceptional designs.

With the release of roadmaps from 40 AV/IT companies in 2024, it's clear that the AV industry is embracing AI to transform user experiences and streamline operations. The future of AV, as Pham highlighted, is indeed infinite in its potential in an exponential age.

  1. Digital signage technology is expected to be considerably enhanced by the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) features, such as personalized content, dynamic automation, and intelligent analysis based on user behavior and environment.
  2. The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the AV industry is not confined to entertainment verticals; it also extends to various industries, like higher education, where AI can drive advancements in interactive and collaborative learning through generative AI applications in digital signage systems.
