Google Announces New Smart Speaker: Google Home Speaker

Google has announced plans to launch a new smart speaker, dubbed the 'Google Home Speaker'. This device is set to challenge Apple's HomePod Mini in terms of sound quality, boasting 360-degree audio capabilities.

The Google Home Speaker's round design, reminiscent of the old Google Home speaker, suggests that it will deliver sound evenly in all directions. This feature sets it apart from its predecessor, the Google Home Mini, which has historically been more about utility than audio quality.

In a move to replace Nest Aware, Google is introducing the Google Home Premium plan. This new subscription service is said to include AI-powered breakdowns of events, notifications, and daily home activity. The Nest Aware service is reportedly being rebranded as Google Home Premium, with Nest Aware Plus being rebranded as Google Home Premium Advanced.

Interestingly, code strings found in the Google Home Android app suggest that Google Home Premium will be folded into a Google One plan, offering extra video history and smarter alerts. The Google One plan, which already includes cloud storage, is said to include the upcoming Google Home Premium.

The new Google smart speaker was spotted at last month's Made by Google event, fuelling speculation that it could potentially challenge Apple's HomePod Mini in the market. If it is indeed the 'mystery speaker', Google's new smart speaker seems to be moving away from its previous focus on utility and toward a focus on audio quality.

Google might be ditching the Nest branding for its next speakers, as the new subscriptions are said to include AI-driven alerts and summaries, positioning the device to compete with Apple's HomePod Mini not just in sound, but also in smarts.

Version 3.41 of the Google Home Android app has spilled the name of the new Google smart speaker in its code, confirming the rumours that have been circulating for some time. The launch date and other details about the Google Home Speaker are yet to be announced.

Stay tuned for more updates as Google prepares to enter the high-end smart speaker market with its new offering.
